To Sligo We Go!

So this weekend I visited some of my family in Sligo, about a three hour trip from Dublin. It’s something I don’t do often enough and plan to make more of an effort to see them. Especially my grandparents, people which I have almost taken for granted and they won’t be around forever. Make the most of the time you have ya’ll.

Anyway, here are a few snaps from this and previous trips. Some must see’s if you do find yourself in the Gateway County.

Sligo Abbey – Abbey Street

Unfortunately this beautiful Dominican ruin only opens from April to October so I could only admire it from behind iron bars. Still worth a visit if you do find yourself in Sligo outside of these moths. (Apologies for bad pictures!)

Yeats’ Grave – Drumcliff

Now this is one of my favourite places to visit as its on route from Sligo town to my grandparents. Not only is it home to the grave of W.B. Yeats, but it also sports a stunning view of Ben Bulben mountain, he sure picked a prime resting place!

There is also a little craft shop and cafe so sit down and grab a cuppa while your there 🙂

  1. In his epic poem, The Wanderings of Oisin and Other Poems, Yeats said: “…We rode in sadness above Lough Lean, For our best were dead on Gavra’s green.” And here he lies in his final resting place with a serene setting crowned by a stunning view of Ben Bulben mountain – a prime resting place indeed!
