A Trip to Kerry

Irish bucket list update 🙂

Discovering my country, bit by bit..

The start of 2016 has been busier than expected but here’s a quick update on how my bucket list is going. A few places ticked off the list 🙂

Ring of Kerry & Killarney National Park

In February we took a little break away to Kerry for our anniversary. I hadn’t been to Kerry since I was maybe 4 or 5 so had a lot to experience! We stayed in Kenmare, a beautiful little town not far from Killarney.

The weather was all over the place, four seasons in one day! But the views were still spectacular! We drove through the Ring of Kerry early Saturday morning, unfortunately it was off season so the Avoca Cafe wasn’t open at Molls Gap.

11am – Molls Gap – as you can see it was a pretty dreary morning!

1pm – Ladies View – and it had turned into a summers day!!

We took a very wet and slippery stroll up to Torc Waterfall in Killarney National Park. We didn’t brave the entire walk this time but would love to return in the summer to experience it properly.

Our adventure then took us to Muckross House in Killarney, again as it was off season the house itself wasn’t open to visitors. If you find yourself in the area I would still reccommend taking a trip down as the grounds are beautiful. You can also take a horse and carriage trip from Killarney town to the house and around the grounds.

Ross Castle was the next stop on our wanderings. This was one of my favourite stops on our trip. Beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding area from the top of the castle.

Now, if you do find yourself a bit peckish while exploring the Ring of Kerry there is one place you MUST visit. The Strawberry Field – Pancake Cottage.

This place is wonderful, they have a ridiculous menu of pancakes to choose from, the staff are just lovely, and if you get in early enough you can grab yourself the table next to the fire!

So for anyone who is thinking of taking a trip to Kerry, I would highly recommend it. It take about 4.5 hours to get to Kenmare from Dublin via car but it is definitely worth it. I am definitely planning a summer trip back at some stage 🙂
